Reddy Bikeshare and Independent Health honor the bikeshare program’s third full year in the City of Buffalo with a week-long celebration that provides opportunities for members to get out and explore Buffalo by bike.

Health & Wellness Challenge achieves participation milestone
The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge continues to inspire Western New Yorkers to become more engaged in their own health and well-being. More than 30,000 individuals registered for the 10th Health & Wellness Challenge, which ran from April 29 through June 9. Plus, one lucky participant was awarded a $5,000 cash grand prize.

Independent Health announces new partnership with HealthEquity
Independent Health is pleased to announce a new partnership with HealthEquity, one of the leading administrators of Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) in the nation. Through this new collaboration, Independent Health is now the only health plan in Western New York that offers an HSA product with complete integrated enrollment and claims payment solutions that makes it easier for employers and members to manage, use and maximize an HSA.

Media statement regarding privacy event
On March 19, 2019, an Independent Health employee inadvertently emailed documents containing the protected health information (PHI) of 7,605 members to one unauthorized recipient. The recipient notified Independent Health of the error within an hour of receiving the email on March 19, 2019. We promptly sought, and received, confirmation the email was deleted from the recipient’s inbox.

This year’s Kids Run to feature families, fitness and fun!
The Independent Health Foundation invites all Western New Yorkers to register for this year’s Kids Run, which will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 1, in Delaware Park. The 31st annual free event will include a mini-dash for children ages 2 to 5 and a 1.8-mile family run/walk for all ages. In addition, a diaper derby will be held for all babies who crawl.

10th Health & Wellness Challenge to kick off on April 29
The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge is set to kick off for the 10th time! The entire community is encouraged to celebrate the milestone by participating in this fun and engaging program, which will take place from April 29 through June 9. Participants will be eligible to win a variety of prizes by moving more, eating better and drinking water.

Reddy BikeShare in Partnership with Independent Health to Launch in City of Niagara Falls in 2019
Bikesharing will become available to Niagara Falls residents and visitors later this year. Reddy Bikeshare, in partnership with Independent Health, will continue to be operated by non-profit Shared Mobility Inc., but with additional support from the City of Niagara Falls. Bringing Reddy bikes to Niagara Falls is part of the city’s ongoing plans to encourage bicycling and to make the area more bike-friendly.

The Health & Wellness Challenge inspires thousands to live healthier
The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge continues to motivate Western New Yorkers to take charge of their own health and well-being by adopting simple, healthy habits. More than 40 prizes were awarded to participants during the most recent six-week initiative, which ran from October 22 through December 2.

Good for the Neighborhood® offers free health screenings and farmers market throughout August
The Independent Health Foundation is continuing its successful program, Good for the Neighborhood® (GFTN), with five free community events in August. These programs will focus on starting a healthy school year: showcasing healthy recipes and fun nutrition education activities for kids. Each location will also be giving away school supplies to children present at the event, while supplies last.

NYS Senator Jacobs Secures $50,000 to Launch High School Program to Fight Heroin Epidemic
New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (60th SD) announced that he has secured $50,000 in state funds to support the implementation of a High School Student Ambassador Program in the City of Buffalo. Developed by the Independent Health Foundation and Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the pilot program is patterned after the successful Leadership in Training (LIT) middle school program.
