August 6, 2018:
Good for the Neighborhood® offers free health screenings and farmers market throughout August
The Independent Health Foundation is continuing its successful program, Good for the Neighborhood® (GFTN), with five free community events in August. These programs will focus on starting a healthy school year: showcasing healthy recipes and fun nutrition education activities for kids. Each location will also be giving away school supplies to children present at the event, while supplies last.


August 2, 2018:
NYS Senator Jacobs Secures $50,000 to Launch High School Program to Fight Heroin Epidemic
New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (60th SD) announced that he has secured $50,000 in state funds to support the implementation of a High School Student Ambassador Program in the City of Buffalo. Developed by the Independent Health Foundation and Western New York United Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the pilot program is patterned after the successful Leadership in Training (LIT) middle school program.


July 23, 2018:
Independent Health partnering with Zipongo® to make it easier for members to eat well
Independent Health is teaming up with Zipongo®, a San Francisco-based organization, to offer its members a digital food marketplace that will help them select, purchase and prepare healthy foods from home or on-the-go. Our members can now use Zipongo to access recipes and meal plans highly personalized to their tastes, dietary preferences, restrictions and medical needs, including recommendations for quick and healthy meals.


July 17, 2018:
Reddy Bikeshare to Celebrate Two Years in the City of Buffalo with Free and Discounted Memberships; Promotional Giveaways all Week
Free Annual Memberships, Sunglasses and $2.00 Hourly Passes will be available to the public through Saturday July 21. Reddy Bikeshare and Independent Health will honor the bikeshare program’s second full year in the City of Buffalo with a week long celebration at various community events.


July 10, 2018:
This spring’s Health & Wellness Challenge a huge success!
More than 24,000 Western New Yorkers took the steps to lead a healthier life by participating in the Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge. Overall, 3,400 new participants registered for the online community-wide health and wellness initiative, which ran from April 23 through June 3.


June 28, 2018:
Case Study: Unique partnership has led to improved medication adherence and patient outcomes in Western New York
Since October 2015, Independent Health and the Pharmacists’ Association of Western New York (PAWNY) have partnered on a unique program to help educate patients on the importance of adhering to their medication regimen with respect to timing, dosage and frequency. Read how this collaboration has helped improving medication adherence and health outcomes through direct pharmacist-to-patient interactions.


June 12, 2018:
Brook and Independent Health Forge Strategic Partnership to Bring Augmented Intelligence to Chronic Disease Management
Brook, a leading digital health platform for chronic disease management, and Independent Health today announced a strategic partnership to provide enhanced resources to help its members self-manage their care and make the best decisions about their health. In addition to collaboration on technology development and delivery of new services, Independent Health is participating in Brook’s round of financing.


May 02, 2018:
Reddy Bikeshare Expands to NFTA-Metro’s LaSalle Rail Station to Commence National Bike Month
Reddy Bikeshare, in partnership with Independent Health, has expanded into the University Heights with its 39th station in the city of Buffalo. The bikeshare program, which launched in July of 2016 with 200 GPS-capable bicycles, hosted a free “Bike Breakfast” to celebrate the beginning of National Bike Month.


April 18, 2018:
Celebrate 30 years of family fun and fitness at this year’s Kids Run
The Independent Health Foundation encourages all Western New Yorkers to participate in this year’s Kids Run, which will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 2, in Delaware Park. The 30th annual free event will include a mini-dash for children ages 2 to 5, a diaper derby for all babies who crawl, and a 1.8-mile family run/walk for all ages.


April 16, 2018:
Step up and take the Health & Wellness Challenge
The eighth round of the Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge will take place from April 23 through June 3. By meeting daily goals and completing easy and fun healthy activities, participants in this spring’s Challenge will earn points and be eligible to win a variety of prizes, including a $5,000 cash grand prize.


April 10, 2018:

For the past three years, Independent Health and WNY Urology/Cancer Care of WNY have partnered on a series of value-based reimbursement programs payment model that rewards physicians for adhering to best practices when treating conditions that impact the urinary-tract system and male reproductive organs, such as prostate cancer. Reddy Bikeshare’s Second Season Pedals Past Year One
Independent Health officials announced final results for the second season of the innovative bikeshare program in the City of Buffalo, and both organizations are once again extremely pleased with the community’s incredible support and enthusiasm.


January 24, 2018:
Health & Wellness Challenge achieves milestone
The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge has officially surpassed the 20,000-participant mark. The seventh round of the popular community initiative recently concluded, with more than 35 outstanding prizes awarded to participants along the way, including a grand prize trip for two to Nashville, Tennessee.


October 26, 2017:
Independent Health’s Medicare Advantage Plans All Earn 4.5 Star Rating for Quality and Service
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its Star Ratings for Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug plans. All of Independent Health’s Medicare Advantage plans again received a 4.5 out of 5 Star Rating from CMS. The Star Ratings are determined based on a combination of access to care and preventive services, as well as customer service and member satisfaction.


October 5, 2017:
Achieve a healthier lifestyle by joining this fall’s Health & Wellness Challenge
Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills have announced that the seventh round of the Health & Wellness Challenge will take place from October 9 through November 19. By meeting daily goals and completing easy and fun healthy activities, Challenge participants will earn points and be eligible to win a variety of great weekly prizes, as well as a grand prize trip for two to Nashville, Tennessee.


October 4, 2017:
Collaborating with Cardiologists: Case Study
In 2012, Independent Health invited a select group of six forward-thinking cardiology groups to participate in a multi-year effort to decrease variation in cardiology services and move toward consistency in adhering to evidence-based medicine.
