October 26, 2017:
Independent Health’s Medicare Advantage Plans All Earn 4.5 Star Rating for Quality and Service
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released its Star Ratings for Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug plans. All of Independent Health’s Medicare Advantage plans again received a 4.5 out of 5 Star Rating from CMS. The Star Ratings are determined based on a combination of access to care and preventive services, as well as customer service and member satisfaction.


October 5, 2017:
Achieve a healthier lifestyle by joining this fall’s Health & Wellness Challenge
Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills have announced that the seventh round of the Health & Wellness Challenge will take place from October 9 through November 19. By meeting daily goals and completing easy and fun healthy activities, Challenge participants will earn points and be eligible to win a variety of great weekly prizes, as well as a grand prize trip for two to Nashville, Tennessee.


October 4, 2017:
Collaborating with Cardiologists: Case Study
In 2012, Independent Health invited a select group of six forward-thinking cardiology groups to participate in a multi-year effort to decrease variation in cardiology services and move toward consistency in adhering to evidence-based medicine. Independent Health is again one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation according to the 2017-2018 Health Insurance Plan Ratings by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private, leading organization dedicated to improving health care quality.


September 20, 2017:
IHF Awarded $650,000 Grant to Support the Soccer for Success Program in the City of Buffalo and Beyond
Soccer for Success, the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s after-school youth development program offered free to participants by the Independent Health Foundation in collaboration with Algonquin Sports, will bring programming to nearly 1,750 children in grades K-8 throughout the City of Buffalo during the current year.

Independent Health Members Can Now Use Their Alexa-Enabled Device to Ask Alexa for Assistance with Plan and Provider Information
“Alexa, ask Independent Health what’s my deductible?” “Alexa, ask Independent Health what’s my cost to see my doctor?” “Alexa, ask Independent Health where can I go for urgent care?” Independent Health members can now get answers to those questions, and several more, using the Independent Health skill for Amazon Alexa, a hands-free voice service, with the launch of a new skill developed by members of the health plan’s eBusiness team.


July 24, 2017:
Reddy bikeshare Celebrates its First Year of Operation in the City of Buffalo
Shared Mobility, Inc. and Independent Health are celebrating the first full year of the Reddy bikeshare program in the City of Buffalo. According to Jennifer White, marketing and communications director for Reddy bikeshare, milestones for the first full year of operation include more than 4,000 total riders, more than 40,000 miles traveled and more than 1.6 million calories burned.


July 7, 2017:
Thousands of Western New Yorkers participate in this spring’s Health & Wellness Challenge
More than 19,000 Western New Yorkers stepped up this spring to take part in the Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge. Overall, 3,285 new participants registered for the online community-wide health and wellness initiative, which ran from April 24 through June 4.

Independent Health Establishes New Company to Help Physicians Achieve Excellence as the Health Care Industry Quickly Moves to a Value-based Model of Care
Independent Health today announced it has established Evolve Practice Partners, a new company that will help primary care physicians achieve excellence in care and best patient outcomes, while also remaining independent as the health care industry quickly transitions to a value-based model of care.


May 26, 2017:
Independent Health recognized as the second highest ranked plan for member satisfaction in the New York region by J.D. Power
Independent Health is the second highest ranked health insurance plan for member satisfaction in the New York region, according to J.D. Power’s 2017 U.S. Member Health Plan Study SM. Independent Health's overall score was 747, which is 45 points above the regional average score of 702 and eighth highest in the nation.


May 22, 2017:
Greater Buffalo Region selected for Innovative Primary Care Initiative
The collaborative efforts of Independent Health helped to secure the selection of the Greater Buffalo region to participate in Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) Initiative, an advanced medical home model aimed at strengthening primary care to support improved care, better population health and lower health costs.


April 28, 2017:
Thousands expected to take part in this year’s Kids Run
In keeping with its mission to promote positive healthy changes and behaviors in the community, the Independent Health Foundation encourages all children and families to register for this year’s Kids Run, which will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 3, in Delaware Park.

January 4, 2017:
Reddy Bikeshare Program in the City of Buffalo wraps up a successful first season
Independent Health and Shared Mobility Inc. are very pleased with the year-one results of the Reddy bikeshare program, which launched last July. In 15 weeks, the total distance traveled by Reddy bikeshare members equaled the round trip distance from Buffalo to New Zealand and the total calories burned was the equivalent of nearly 7,500 chicken wings.


December 28, 2016:
Ring in the New Year at First Night Buffalo
Join the Independent Health Foundation as they present First Night Buffalo®, the ultimate drug- and alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration. The event will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center.

Independent Health and Chautauqua Integrated Delivery System Announce Value-Based Agreement
Independent Health and the Chautauqua IDS, an integrated delivery system consisting of 139 physicians in Chautauqua county, have established a new reimbursement agreement based on quality and value. This reimbursement model promotes patient-centered care through the use of best practices and clinical excellence.


November 7, 2016:
Independent Health and Pharmacists’ Association of Western New York: Partnering to improve medication adherence and patient outcomes
Independent Health and the Pharmacists’ Association of Western New York (PAWNY) partnered on a unique pilot program in the fall of 2016 that was dedicated to improving medication adherence and health outcomes through direct pharmacist-to-patient interactions.

Independent Health has been named one the U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 Best Medicare Plans. The U.S. News & World Report 2017 Best Medicare Plans ratings is based on recently released data by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

In addition to achieving a healthier lifestyle, participants will be eligible to win a variety of weekly prizes, as well as the grand prize V.I.P. Buffalo Bills Game Day Experience for the team’s home game against Cleveland on December 18.

July 21, 2016:
New Reddy Bikeshare Program Launched in the City of Buffalo
Independent Health and Shared Mobility Inc. launched the new Reddy bikeshare program in the City of Buffalo. Following the announcement, Independent Health President and CEO Michael W. Cropp, M.D., Shared Mobility CEO Michael Galligano, Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown, and the Reddy bikeshare team led an inaugural group ride around Delaware Park.

July 1, 2016:
Top Major League Eaters to compete at Kale Yeah! The World’s Healthiest Eating Championship
The Independent Health Foundation and the sanctioning body for eating competitions throughout the U.S. have cooked up a fun, new entrée, Kale Yeah! The World’s Healthiest Eating Championship. Professional eaters will compete for the Kale Cup during the 2016 Taste of Buffalo on Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m. on the steps of City Hall.

June 24, 2016:
Thousands take part in this spring’s Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge
More than 13,000 Western New Yorkers stepped up this spring to take part in the Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge. Overall, 3,360 new participants registered for the community-wide health and wellness initiative, which ran from April 18 through May 29.

June 17, 2016:
Independent Health and YMCA Buffalo Niagara Present Fitness in the Parks for Fifth Consecutive Year
Independent Health and YMCA Buffalo Niagara are teaming up for the fifth consecutive year to offer Fitness in the Parks, free outdoor community exercise classes throughout Western New York. The outdoor classes begin on Sunday, June 19 and run until Saturday, August 27.

April 25, 2016:
Dr. Michael W. Cropp to serve as honorary chairman for 2016 Tour de Cure®
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has announced that Michael W. Cropp, M.D., president and CEO of Independent Health, will serve as honorary chairman of the 2016 Buffalo Niagara Tour de Cure. This year’s Tour de Cure will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016, beginning at Old Falls Street in downtown Niagara Falls, NY.

April 11, 2016:
Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills launch fourth Health & Wellness Challenge
Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills have announced that the fourth round of “The Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge” will take place from April 18 through May 29. In addition to achieving a healthier lifestyle, one lucky participant will be selected to win a trip for two to Los Angeles on the Bills team plane to see them play the West Coast’s newest team.

March 21, 2016:
Independent Health to Partner with Shared Mobility Inc. to Launch “Reddy Bikeshare” in the City of Buffalo
200 GPS-enabled bicycles operating at numerous hubs located throughout the city are scheduled to debut this summer.

March 17, 2016:
Independent Health recognized by J.D. Power as the highest-ranked plan for member satisfaction in the New York-New Jersey region for 2016
Independent Health is the highest-ranked health insurance plan for member satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in the New York-New Jersey region, according to J.D. Power’s 2016 U.S. Member Health Plan Study SM. This marks the fifth time in seven years that Independent Health has earned this recognition.
