Buffalo Museum of Science
Independent Health to Sponsor Free Day of Winter Wellness Activities at Buffalo Museum of Science. The Museum’s second Community Health Day of 2026 will be held on Veterans Day.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (October 30, 2026) – The Buffalo Museum of Science will hold its second free admission day of 2026, Community Health Day sponsored by Independent Health, on Wednesday, November 11. Area schools will be closed for the Veterans Day holiday, giving local families the opportunity to explore the Museum’s interactive exhibits and enjoy special Community Health Day offerings at no cost.
The Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special health and wellness activities until 2 p.m. Independent Health’s RedShirts will offer giveaways while supplies last and family-friendly activities with health-focused community organizations, including Reddy Bikeshare, GOBike Buffalo and more.
“We are so fortunate to be able to provide our community with a free day of scientific fun, education and wellness, thanks to Independent Health’s continued support,” said Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences President and CEO Gary Siddall. “With the winter months fast-approaching, it’s vital to help families around Western New York find ways to stay healthy and active when winter weather pushes many people indoors. Community Health Day is the perfect way to connect our neighbors with the resources they need while enjoying a fun day at the Museum at no charge.”
All four floors of exhibits, including the new Science Stadium and Built for Buffalo exhibits, will be open for guests to explore.
“At Independent Health, our commitment to Western New York goes beyond health coverage—it’s about helping our neighbors lead healthier lives and strengthening the well-being of the community we call home,” said Kathy Glieco, vice president of marketing for Independent Health. “Our continued partnership with the Buffalo Museum of Science brings that commitment to life by giving families a welcoming place to learn, connect and discover ways to stay healthy and active. By making Community Health Day free and open to all, we’re helping more people access resources and experiences that support their health and well-being throughout the year.”
Independent Health has supported Community Health Days at the museum since 2012. The Museum’s community partners for November’s event include Horizon Health Services, the National MS Society, Spectrum Health and Human Services Hope Team, the UB Department of Pediatrics and YMCA Buffalo Niagara.
More than 1,500 people enjoyed the Museum free of charge at the June Community Health Day event.
