Independent Health ranked as the third highest health plan for member satisfaction in the New York region by J.D. Power
Independent Health is again the highest ranked among Western New York health plans
BUFFALO, N.Y., (May 27, 2026) – Independent Health is ranked as the third highest health plan for member satisfaction in the New York region, according to the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan Study.
Independent Health is again ranked first among Western New York health plans, a ranking it has achieved 15 times over the past 16 years. In addition, J.D. Power has ranked Independent Health first, second or third in the entire State every year since 2010.

J.D. Power’s U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan Study measures satisfaction among members of 148 health plans in 22 regions throughout the United States based on performance in eight core dimensions. The dimensions are: able to get health services; product/coverage offerings; resolving problems or complaints; ease of doing business; digital channels; helps save time and money; trust; and people.
Other recent honors for Independent Health
Based on 2025 and 2026 metrics, Independent Health is among the top-rated health plans in the nation for quality and customer service:
- For the third consecutive year, Independent Health has earned the highest possible overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) 2025 Commercial Health Plan Ratings. Independent Health’s HMO/POS (Commercial) plan was the only plan in New York, and one of just eight Commercial plans that received an overall rating of 5 out of 5 Stars for 2025.
- Independent Health received 5 out of 5 Stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for all of its Medicare Advantage plans for 2026. The Star Ratings are based on quality, value, and performance – making 2026 the 16th consecutive year that our HMO plan has received a 5 or 4.5-Star Rating.
- Independent Health has achieved Tier 1 Status in the New York State Department of Health’s (NYSDOH’s) Medicaid Managed Care Incentive Program each of the past three years. This program focuses on the performance in quality and member experiences of health plans. Independent Health’s overall score was once again the highest among all participating health plans throughout New York State.
