Nearly 6,000 individuals have submitted nominations for the program since it began in early October. All randomly selected recipients operate within the eight-county Western New York region.

Independent Health seeks submissions for its “Nominate Your Favorite Charity” program, which began Oct. 1 and runs through the completion of the Medicare annual enrollment season, Dec. 7. Every two weeks, Independent Health will randomly select 13 local non-profit organizations to receive $650 each. This amounts to $42,000 for 65 non-profit charitable organizations.

This marks the second match United Way has received from a corporate partner to support their Join the Fight fund. United Way of Buffalo & Erie County (UWBEC) announced today a matching grant of $100,000 from Independent Health to encourage contributions from individuals and companies across Erie County to UWBEC’s Join the Fight campaign. This is the second matching grant of $100,000 UWBEC has received from a corporate partner. The first was awarded by the National Fuel Gas Company Foundation.

Reddy Bikeshare and Independent Health officials announced ridership results from the program’s 5th season, in which more people signed up to ride in 2020 than in the previous four seasons combined. Indicating significant growth in the popularity of biking in Western New York, sign-ups to the program increased by 222% from 2019 to 2020.
