Anne O’Neill

Senior Vice President, Chief Risk Officer

Anne O’Neill, senior vice president, chief risk officer, leads and manages the company’s efforts to mitigate risks to future growth and existing assets. Her responsibilities include overseeing the enterprise risk management, information risk office and business continuity functions.

Through leading and managing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) discipline, O’Neill ensures the integration of risk management capabilities into key business processes, including strategic planning, capital allocation, annual business planning and budgeting, and product development.

Her accountabilities in overseeing the business continuity function include leading incident response for Independent Health during any major business interruption, with focus on managing the impacts and opportunities to sustain operations and services. In addition, she oversees the continued focus on Independent Health’s cybersecurity and privacy protections of members’ information.

O’Neill joined Independent Health in 2009 as manager, enterprise risk management. In 2012 she was promoted to director, enterprise risk management, and in 2014 O’Neill was promoted to vice president, chief risk officer. She became a member of the organization’s Executive Team in September 2021 and was promoted to her current role in May 2022.

O’Neill was selected by Buffalo Business First as a Women of Influence honoree in 2020, and as a Power 200 Women honoree in 2022-2024. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, as well as the Human Resources Committee of the UWBEC Board.

O’Neill earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and achieved her Certified Public Accountant designation.
