Independent Health recognized for member satisfaction

J.D. Power names Independent Health the second highest ranked health plan in the New York region for 2025

BUFFALO, N.Y. (May 28, 2025) – Independent Health has been ranked as the second highest health plan for member satisfaction in the New York region, according to the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan StudySM.

The U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan Study, now in its 19th year, measures satisfaction among members of 147 health plans in 22 regions throughout the United States based on performance in the following eight core dimensions: able to get health services how/when I want; digital channels; ease of doing business; helps save time and money; people (e.g., representatives, call center agents, etc.); product/coverage offerings; resolving problems or complaints; and trust.

For 2025, Independent Health's overall score of 631 is 78 points above the New York region average score of 553. Dating back to 2010, Independent Health has now been recognized by J.D. Power as being the top-ranked plan for member satisfaction in its region six times (2010-13, 2016 and 2020*) and the second highest ranked plan another seven times (2014-15, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2024 and 2025).

Other recent honors for Independent Health
Based on 2024 and 2025 metrics, Independent Health is among the top-rated health plans in the nation for quality and customer service:

  • Independent Health earned 5 out of 5 Stars for clinical quality and member satisfaction, for the second consecutive year, by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. We were the only plan in New York and just one of three plans in the nation to earn these high marks for 2024.
  • Independent Health received 4.5 out of 5 Stars from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for our Medicare Advantage plans based on quality, value, and performance – making 2024 the 15th consecutive year that our HMO plan has received a 4.5 or 5-Star Rating and the 10th straight year that our PPO plan received it.
  • Independent Health was named to U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of the best health insurance companies offering Medicare Advantage coverage in 2024. Independent Health is the only Western New York-based plan to have earned this honor for six consecutive years. 
  • Independent Health has achieved Tier 1 Status in the New York State Department of Health’s (NYSDOH’s) Medicaid Managed Care Incentive Program each of the past three years. This program focuses on the performance in quality and member experiences of health plans. Independent Health’s overall score was once again the highest among all participating health plans throughout New York State. 
  • For 2025, Independent Health was ranked number one among 67 plans in the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program, based on our plan performance in clinical quality, customer service, and resource use. This is the third year in a row Independent Health has been named the top FEHB plan in the country.
