Fitness in the Parks returns for its 14th season

Independent Health and YMCA Buffalo Niagara to offer over 500 fitness classes across Western New York this summer

BUFFALO, N.Y. (May 30, 2025) – Independent Health and YMCA Buffalo Niagara are proud to kick off the 14th season of Fitness in the Parks, a free community wellness initiative that brings more than 500 outdoor fitness classes to 24 parks across Western New York. From high energy Zumba® to restorative yoga or Pilates, Fitness in the Parks offers something for everyone to get outside and stay active outdoors all summer long.

Beginning June 1 and running through August 31, the program features 40 different classes in 11 different formats led by certified YMCA instructors. The classes will take place at 24 park locations across Western New York, stretching from Lewiston to Jamestown. Locations include:

  • Delaware Park
  • Chestnut Ridge Park
  • Day Road Park
  • Larkin Square
  • Garrison Park

New this year, Fitness in the Parks will be held at Niagara University’s Kiernan Recreation Center as well as Memorial Park in Dunkirk. Plus, two longtime favorite locations are returning to this year’s schedule: Outer Harbor’s Wilkeson Pointe and Olcott’s Krull Park.

“Fitness in the Parks is for everyone, with no pressure and no expectations,” said Michelle Carbery, Senior Corporate Wellness Specialist at Independent Health and Fitness in the Parks instructor. “Arrive a few minutes early, introduce yourself to the instructor, and mention any concerns or movement limitations you have. Then just move at your own pace and enjoy being outside.”

Classes scheduled every day of the week
Fitness in the Parks offers a variety of classes for all ages and skill levels with no registration required. Attendees will receive free Independent Health-branded cooling towels, while supplies last. Classes include:
