Among the nation’s highest-rated health plans

Independent Health is one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation for clinical quality and member satisfaction.

Buffalo, NY – According to the 2019-2020 Private/Commercial Health Insurance Plan Ratings by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private, leading organization dedicated to improving health care quality, Independent Health is one of the highest-rated health insurance plans in the nation for clinical quality and member satisfaction. As part of the 2019-2020 ratings, NCQA reviewed nearly 400 health plans from across the country and rated them based on their combined Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) and NCQA Accreditation scores. Each health plan was rated on a 5-point scale for consumer satisfaction, prevention and treatment.

Overall, Independent Health’s HMO/POS (Private/Commercial) plan received a 4.5 out of 5 rating in NCQA’s 2019-2020 Health Insurance Ratings. Nationally, Independent Health was among the highest-rated plans (top 90th percentile) in several HEDIS and CAHPS categories, including:

  • Getting Needed Care – Measures how often did members get an appointment to see a specialist as soon as they needed and how often was it easy to get the care, tests, or treatments they needed.
  • Care Coordination – Measures how often did a member’s personal doctor seem informed and up to date about the care they provided to the member and the care that the member received from other doctors and health care providers.
  • Flu Shots for Adults – Percentage of members aged 18 and older who reported that they received a flu shot within the past 12 months.

“Over the years, Independent Health has consistently been among the NCQA’s highest rated plans due in large part to our unwavering commitment to provide exceptional service and encourage member engagement,” said Michael W. Cropp, M.D., President and CEO, Independent Health. “Through our collaborative provider partnerships, we have been able to advance coordinated care and increase the percentage of our members receiving preventive care, with the goal of helping to keep them healthy, which is the essence of our role as a health plan.”
