Change Healthcare has experienced a cyber event, which has affected providers’ ability to process claims and payment remittances across the country. Independent Health has been monitoring this situation closely and offers the following options to accept provider claims.
Professional and Facility Providers
If you have been impacted by the Change Healthcare event and your systems can produce X12 837 HIPAA-compliant transactions that can be sent to Independent Health, we are able to receive and process your claims DIRECTLY via one of two submission methods.
- Sterling File Gateway
Independent Health offers secure file transfer via SFTP via our Sterling File Gateway platform.
If you are able to produce an X12 837 HIPAA compliant claim that can be easily redirected Independent Health, please contact the e-Commerce Department at (716) 635-3911, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 pm or email us at e-commerce@independenthealth.com to sign up.
- Independent Health’s Transaction AssistantSM
Independent Health offers a secure web portal called Transaction AssistantSM which enables the submission of electronic claims (837) and retrieve electronic remittance (835) transactions. To learn more about Transaction AssistantSM click here.

Other Alternatives
If your system is not able to produce an X12 837 HIPAA-compliant claim or your files cannot be easily redirected to Independent Health, you may prefer to connect with a clearinghouse that can provide the additional processing and forwarding services you might require.
