Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy and Corporate Business Development Officer
As senior vice president, chief strategy and corporate business development officer, Paul Kahlon is responsible for leading the development and facilitation of Independent Health’s strategy and transformation. Kahlon works alongside Independent Health’s chief executive officer to ensure the long-term growth and profitability of the enterprise. He is crafting a more strategic view of where the organization is heading, while also acting as liaison to the Board of Directors and the various committees of the Board. Prior to this role, Kahlon also served as chief financial officer for Independent Health.
Kahlon joined Independent Health in 2018 as chief actuarial officer, overseeing the Actuarial Department with his responsibilities expanding quickly to include oversight of underwriting, risk revenue, investments, value-based contracting, financial planning, and all financial and operational budgets, as well as state and federal regulatory reporting.
Kahlon was appointed President of Mason Insurance Company in May of 2018, a wholly owned subsidiary of Independent Health. In addition, Kahlon is an executive leader of the strategy transformation office, responsible for executing major and complex strategic initiatives for Independent Health and its family of companies. He also continues to serve as chief and appointed Actuary of the enterprise. Prior to joining Independent Health, Kahlon served in a variety of roles within insurance and management consulting focusing on actuarial, financial and strategic business planning, as well as capital and risk management.
Kahlon graduated from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree with honors majoring in business administration and finance. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) designations.
Kahlon is co-chair of the Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP) Executive Council, which is comprised of executive leaders from ACHP plans across the United States focused on demonstrating value and influencing public policy. Kahlon is also an active member of the community and serves on the Board of Buffalo Toronto Public Media.
