Due to a recent finalized mandate by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), providers must actively enroll or opt-out of Medicare fee-for-service in order for them to continue to write prescriptions for Part D drugs.
If you have already opted in or out of Medicare fee-for-service, you have fulfilled the requirement.
If you wish to enroll with Medicare fee-for-service, you must enroll as soon as possible to ensure there is sufficient time for CMS to process the applications to avoid your patients’ prescription drug claims from being denied by their Part D plan. Please be aware that if you choose to opt-out of Medicare fee-for-service, although you may continue to write Part D prescriptions, you will no longer be able to participate with the Independent Health Medicare provider network.
If you take no action related to this enrollment request, your Part D drugs will not be paid, which could adversely affect the treatment of your Medicare patients and you will no longer be a participating provider with Independent Health for our Medicare Advantage line of business.
To ensure continuity of care for our members’ care, Independent Health encourages all physicians and eligible health care providers who write prescriptions for Part D drugs to enroll with Medicare now. The requirement will be enforced on June 1, 2016, but enrollment must be done now as it takes several months to process through CMS.
