ICD-10: Start preparing now to ensure smooth transition

The Department of Health and Human Services has set the new implementation date for ICD-10 for October 1, 2015.

It is important for payers, providers and vendors to be ready for this date. At Independent Health, we are fully involved in making the necessary system changes to meet ICD-10 compliance. Our work includes:
  • Working with our vendors and solution partners to determine their preparation and implementation efforts.
  • Reviewing medical policies to determine their alignment with ICD-10 coding.
  • Developing training and learning plans.
  • Participating with the WNYHealtheNet ICD-10 Consortium to develop resources and information for the WNY provider community.

In addition, we have completed the implementation of our new core administrative system, including a new claims system, to ensure compliance.

That date is also important to Independent Health and the physicians, providers, billing agencies and other partners we work with, because Independent Health will accept only ICD-10 coding beginning with dates of service of October 1, 2015. Independent Health will not accept claims with dates of service on or after that date submitted with ICD-9 codes.
