Independent Health’s Medicaid participation in Niagara County Ending

Independent Health has come to the difficult business decision to no longer offer MediSource (Independent Health’s Medicaid Managed Care product) in Niagara County as of December 31, 2015. All other Independent Health products, including Child Health Plus in Niagara County, will remain in effect.

We are in the process of notifying your patients who are MediSource members of their options to continue coverage through the other Medicaid managed care companies available in Niagara County: Fidelis Care New York and United Healthcare of New York. We are also working with the Niagara County Department of Social Services and the New York State Department of Health to make the transition to a new plan as smooth as possible.

If you do not participate with your patients’ new plans (Fidelis Care or United Healthcare), you will receive reimbursement from their new plans if:
  • Your patient is currently receiving ongoing care for a serious condition. Their new plan will reimburse you for services for up to 60 days after their enrollment in the new plan.
  • Your patient is three or more months’ pregnant as of December 31, 2015. Their new plan will reimburse you for treating the patient until her baby is born and through post-partum care.
Reimbursement may be according to the fee schedule and policies of the new plan.

Fidelis Care members are shown in HEALTHeNET, but United Healthcare members are not, so patients should present their new plan ID cards at every visit.

Primary care physicians may view their patient rosters of MediSource members in REVEAL. Specialists may obtain a list of their patients who are MediSource members by contacting Provider Services. If you have any additional questions, please contact Provider Services at (716) 631-3282 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. or at
