2018 Fitness in the Parks – Class Descriptions

Western New Yorkers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend these FREE 60-minute classes, led by YMCA certified instructors. It is recommended that you check with your physician before embarking on any type of fitness program.

Bodyweight Strength Training – A total body-sculpting session that targets every muscle group. Participants are encouraged to bring dumbbells and a yoga mat.

BollyX – A dance-cardio workout inspired by the music and dance of Bollywood, the film industry of India. This dance-fitness program combines dynamic choreography with hot music from around the world.

Boot Camp – Join us for this challenging yet enjoyable workout that focuses on speed, endurance, agility, strength, power moves and cardiovascular training.

Cardio Dance – Simple yet challenging choreography set to music. Cardio dance will enhance cardiovascular endurance, muscle tone, flexibility and coordination. All fitness levels are welcome.

Cardio Kickboxing – A great way to relieve stress and tension, this aerobic-based class combines martial arts, boxing, aerobic exercises, and strengthening exercises to increase flexibility, balance, strength, and coordination. Learn the proper way to kick and punch in a safe, non-contact environment.

FreeStyle Barre – Fusing some of the elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga. Freestyle Barre is guaranteed to tone in a low impact, high-intensity setting. Focus is centered on postural strength and alignment along with upper and lower body strength.

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) – High-energy, cardiovascular-infused, group workout with a mix of strength training. Join in on the fun and energizing, calorie-burning workout.

Kids Fitness – Open to all ages. Join us for a fun-filled workout with a variety of exercises, including an obstacle course!

Pilates – Strengthen the body’s core muscles, including the abdominals and lower back, with this method of body conditioning. It will tone the body and increase flexibility.

PiYo – By blending Pilates and yoga, this workout will provide an incredible mind and body experience to help increase your fitness level. Burn calories, build muscle, and increase your strength, balance, agility and flexibility.

Pound® – This is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, strength movements, plyometric, and isometric poses. Pound® utilizes continual upper body motion using lightly weighted exercise drumsticks.

Tai Chi – An introduction to Tai Chi that anyone can do. No equipment needed – just come in comfortable, supportive shoes.

Yoga – Enjoy gentle, effective postures that promote stretching, strengthening and relaxation. Benefits include increased blood circulation, improved mental awareness, strengthened muscles and reduced stress! We recommend bringing your own yoga mat.

Zumba® – Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape at the original dance-fitness party. Zumba® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats.

Zumba® Kids – Steps are broken-down in this kid-friendly routine based on original Zumba® choreography. Your child can develop a healthy lifestyle and learn how to incorporate fitness in a fun way. Also features games, activities and cultural exploration. Perfect for ages 7-11!
