2019 Fitness in the Parks – Class Descriptions

Western New Yorkers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend these FREE outdoor classes, led by YMCA certified instructors. It is recommended that you check with your physician before embarking on any type of fitness program.

Barre – Fusing some of the elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga. Barre is guaranteed to tone in a low impact, high-intensity setting. Focus is centered on postural strength and alignment along with upper and lower body strength.

Bodyweight Strength Training – A total body-sculpting session that targets every muscle group. Participants are encouraged to bring dumbbells and a yoga mat.

Boot Camp – Join us for this challenging yet enjoyable workout that focuses on speed, endurance, agility, strength, power moves and cardiovascular training.

Cardio Blast – These classes are combinations of strength training and aerobic workouts. You will get a great strength workout as well as an intense cardio workout in the same class!

Express Yoga Stretch – A challenging, yet moderately-paced series of Yoga poses. This 30-minute “express” class moves at a pace designed to build internal heat, engage and build core strength, increase flexibility, and focus on alignment and breath. Appropriate for everyone with options for modifications!

Fusion – Get an entire-body workout in one class with 20 minutes of high/low aerobics, 20 minutes of body conditioning, and 20 minutes of abdominal work.

Kickboxing – A great way to relieve stress and tension, this aerobic-based class combines martial arts, boxing, aerobic exercises, and strengthening exercises to increase flexibility, balance, strength, and coordination. Learn the proper way to kick and punch in a safe, non-contact environment.

Parent/Child Yoga – For all ages – Relieve stress and build strength by incorporating the mind, body, and spirit into your workout. This hatha-based class can improve flexibility, muscular strength, posture and alignment through yoga poses, breathing and relaxation. Appropriate for all levels of students. Ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Pilates – Strengthen the body’s core muscles, including the abdominals and lower back, with this method of body conditioning. It will tone the body and increase flexibility.

PiYo – By blending Pilates and yoga, this workout will provide an incredible mind and body experience to help increase your fitness level. Burn calories, build muscle, and increase your strength, balance, agility and flexibility.

Sunset Yoga – While the sun sets, you’re encouraged to relieve stress and build strength by incorporating the mind, body, and spirit into your workout. This hatha-based class helps improve flexibility, muscular strength, posture and alignment through yoga poses, breathing and relaxation. Appropriate for all levels of students.

Tai Chi – An introduction to Tai Chi that anyone can do. No equipment needed – just come in comfortable, supportive shoes.

Yoga – Enjoy gentle, effective postures that promote stretching, strengthening and relaxation. Benefits include increased blood circulation, improved mental awareness, strengthened muscles and reduced stress! We recommend bringing your own yoga mat.

Zumba® – Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music and find yourself in shape at the original dance-fitness party. Zumba® classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats.
