In this time of uncertainty surrounding recent events impacting our nation and community, we recognize the importance of continuing the conversation around inclusiveness and diversity.
Our ability to understand others begins with listening. Only by listening can we begin to understand the real issues. When we listen and celebrate what is both common and different, we become wiser and better as an organization. We believe organizations and communities are strengthened by diversity, and Independent Health strives to create a welcoming and inclusive organizational environment, but we recognize there is still much work left to do. Our ability to actively listen and learn from each other is instrumental in achieving our goals, both individually and as a company.
Our current Work from Home environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how much better we can be both as active listeners and in engaging associates more broadly. This extends beyond our organization and into the community. The Independent Health Foundation, along with the help of our associate RedShirt volunteers, is instrumental in hearing and addressing the health needs of the community. For example, since 2006, the Independent Health Foundation has offered the Good for the Neighborhood program, a free, community-based wellness program that brings health-related training and tools to areas where access to health care is limited. Through the years we have also made meaningful investments in parts of the community with the greatest health needs, and we continue to do so, including the new Medically Oriented Gym at Jericho Road, and with other community organizations. Our significant and long-standing support illustrates the deep respect, caring and compassion the company has for all members of the community.
The work of racial justice is more important than ever. We care deeply for our community members and partner organizations who strive every day to eradicate racism and support our underserved populations. We are here to continue learning and to generate dialog, and we remain committed to creating opportunities where all Western New Yorkers have a fair and equal chance to lead the healthiest lifestyle possible.
