Orchard Park, NY, September 26, 2016 – Independent Health and the Buffalo Bills are inviting all Western New Yorkers to participate in the fifth round of the Health & Wellness Challenge, the highly-successful fitness and nutrition program that was designed to help individuals improve their overall health and well-being.
This fall’s Independent Health and Buffalo Bills Health & Wellness Challenge will take place from October 3 through November 13 and is once again open to the entire community. Those interested in participating for the first time can register at any time during the initiative by visiting www.buffalobills.com/thechallenge. Past participants simply need to log in again to participate.
“Independent Health is once again proud to be teaming with the Buffalo Bills to inspire Western New Yorkers to get up, get moving and start living healthier,” said Michael W. Cropp, M.D., president and CEO, Independent Health. “Since the launch of the first Health & Wellness Challenge two years ago, more than 13,000 individuals have participated in this fun and easy initiative. In doing so, they’ve taken the small steps necessary to get started on a path to a healthier lifestyle by adopting simple, healthy habits such as walking a few hours a week or eating fruits and vegetables with every meal.”
Get healthy and be eligible to win prizes
By meeting daily goals and completing healthy activities, participants in the Health & Wellness Challenge will earn points and be eligible to win a variety of weekly prizes, such as autographed Bills memorabilia and gift cards for workout apparel and sporting goods. Plus, one lucky participant will be chosen as the grand prize winner of a V.I.P. Buffalo Bills Game Day Experience for the team’s home game against Cleveland on December 18. The V.I.P. Game Day Experience will include:
- A game suite for the grand prize winner and 11 guests (inclusive of food and beverage)
- Visit to the suite by Bills alumnus Thurman Thomas during the game
- Pregame on-field sideline passes
- Postgame press conference attendance
- A gift certificate to a local restaurant
- Bills merchandise
In addition to having the chance to win prizes, participants will be able to attend free boot camp class on the field at New Era Field every Monday evening throughout the six-week initiative.
“The Health & Wellness Challenge continues to make a positive impact on Western New York by inspiring our community to adopt healthy nutrition and fitness habits,” said Bills Managing Partner and President Russ Brandon. “We are excited to provide a one-of-a-kind incentive to this round of the challenge with the grand prize V.I.P Game Day Experience that will provide the winner with truly unique behind-the-scenes access on Bills game day. The Health & Wellness Challenge is continuing to gain momentum throughout Western New York and is inspiring community members to live healthier lifestyles.”
How the Health & Wellness Challenge works
The number of points earned throughout the Health & Wellness Challenge will determine the number of chances participants have in the prize drawings. Participants earn points by meeting three main daily goals:
1) 20 minutes of physical activity
2) Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables
3) Drink eight glasses of water
Participants can also complete one “extra points” challenge each day. As an added bonus, participants who refer their friends, family and co-workers receive 10 extra points for each person who registers. They then keep track of their progress and learn about that day’s “extra points” challenge by logging-in at buffalobills.com/thechallenge.
To be eligible to win a prize, participants must be at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of New York State at the time of entry. You do not need to be an Independent Health member to participate.
