Insurance provider’s private line of business, Medicare HMO, score 4.5 out of 5 in national rating
BUFFALO, N.Y. (September 17, 2015) - Independent Health is proud to announce that it earned a 4.5 out of 5 rating for both its Private (Commercial) line of business and its Medicare HMO plan, from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2015-2016.
The ratings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation standards.
"The NCQA ratings serve as a valuable tool for consumers to assess plan performance," said Michael W. Cropp, M.D., President and CEO, Independent Health. "Independent Health has consistently performed extremely well in these ratings due in large part to the strong relationships we have built with our provider partners, as well as our commitment to provide exceptional customer service. We continue to focus on making health care easier by working to develop innovative plans that help our members use their coverage more efficiently, get access to the right care and lead healthier lifestyles."
In addition to its Private (Commercial) line of business and its Medicare HMO plan, Independent Health earned a 4.0 out of 5 rating for its Medicaid plan and a 3.5 out of 5 rating for its Medicare PPO plan by NCQA’s Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2015–2016.
Within Independent Health’s growing Medicare lines, more than 95 percent of all members are enrolled in Medicare HMO with less than five percent enrolled in the Medicare PPO line.
In previous years, the NCQA utilized a scoring system that produced a ranking of plans in each category. This year the format has changed and they have moved to a rating system, awarding between zero and five in each category. The factors used to determine those ratings have not changed.
Independent Health has consistently been rated among the top health plans in the country for customer service and member satisfaction. In previous NCQA health plan rankings published in U.S. News & World Report, Independent Health was named one of America’s Best Health Insurance Plans from 2005-2009. Independent Health was also recognized as the second highest-ranked health insurance plan in the New York/New Jersey region by J.D. Power’s 2015 U.S. Member Health Plan StudySM.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and recognizes clinicians in key clinical areas. NCQA’s HEDIS is the most widely used performance measurement tool in healthcare. NCQA’s Web site (www.ncqa.org) contains information to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices.
