Independent Health ranked among the highest-rated health plans in the nation by NCQA

BUFFALO, N.Y. (September 18, 2014) – For the 10th consecutive year, Independent Health Association is one of the highest-ranked health insurance plans in the nation for its Private (Commercial) line of business, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014-2015.

Independent Health received a score of 86.7 out of 100 and is ranked 32nd among 617 plans in NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014-2015. The rankings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation standards. Independent Health also received the highest possible ratings ("5 out of 5") in consumer experience, prevention and treatment for the Private line of business.

In addition to its Private line of business, Independent Health once again ranks in the top 10 percent for its Medicare HMO and Medicaid plans. Independent Health is ranked 32nd among 507 plans in NCQA’s Medicare Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014-2015 and 22nd among 273 plans in NCQA’s Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2014-2015.

Independent Health has consistently been rated among the top health plans in the country for customer service and member satisfaction. In previous NCQA health plan rankings published in U.S. News & World Report, Independent Health was named one of America’s Best Health Insurance Plans from 2005-2009.

For four consecutive years, Independent Health received the highest numerical score among commercial health plans in the New York-New Jersey region in the proprietary J.D. Power 2010-2013 U.S. Member Health Plan StudySM. The studies ranked members’ experiences in seven categories, including coverage and benefits, information and communication, provider choice, customer service, claims processing, approval process and statements.

More recently, Independent Health was recognized as a J.D. Power 2014 Customer Champion* for delivering excellence in customer service by focusing on key customer touch-points, including products, price, people, process and presentation. Independent Health was one of only five health insurance plans to earn this national recognition.
