Dan Liburd, strength and conditioning assistant coach of the Buffalo Bills and former Buffalo Bills All-Pro Steve Tasker will take part in health and wellness event.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 12, 2014) - Independent Health will present its second annual Explore Together event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Buffalo Museum of Science. With a focus on health and wellness, this family event will feature a variety of interactive activities to teach everyone about the importance of proper nutrition, fitness and adopting healthy habits at an early age.
“Creating a culture of health in Western New York is at the forefront of everything we do,”said Michael W. Cropp, M.D., president and CEO, Independent Health. “We are committed to keeping everyone well informed and events like Explore Together bring families together to reinforce that we each have a responsibility to increase our engagement in our health and wellness.”
Special guest Dan Liburd, strength and conditioning assistant coach of the Buffalo Bills, will be conducting fun presentations about fitness and nutrition. Liburd is responsible for implementing and overseeing the team’s nutrition and dietary programs and assists with supervising the athletes’ performance in the weight room. Museum guests can also meet former Buffalo Bills All-Pro Steve Tasker, who will be signing autographs, and local mascots Emily from the Fitness for Kids Challenge, Buster and Sabretooth.
Event attendees will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare homemade hummus and kids can create their own healthy snack. Families can test their knowledge on health and nutrition with Dennis George The Quiz Master, kids can test their soccer skills at the Soccer for Success goal station and everyone can visit the wellness station to learn how to make better food choices. In addition, guests can enter the grand prize contest for a chance to win a two player electronic football toss arcade game.
“Through our partnership with the Buffalo Museum of Science, Independent Health is able to offer unique community programs aimed at teaching kids and their families about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle,” said Dr. Cropp. “We believe it’s never too early to get active and start eating right, and Explore Together demonstrates that leaning about fitness and nutrition can be fun and will benefit the whole family.”
Admission to Explore Together is free for Buffalo Museum of Science members and the cost of museum admission for non-members.
