BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 1, 2013) – More than 4,500 area families celebrated 25 years of the Independent Health Foundation’s Kids Run Saturday at Delaware Park.
It's the largest Kids Run in its history.
The free, annual event, which is presented by Wegmans, included a mini-dash for kids ages 2 to 5 and a 1.8 mile run/walk for all ages. Trophies were awarded to the winning boys and girls and each participant received a medal at the finish line. After the race, families enjoyed discounted admission to the Buffalo Zoo.
"Kids Run was originally created to encourage families to exercise and stay active together," said Carrie Meyer, executive director, Independent Health Foundation. "Today, more than ever, Kids Run sends an important message to our community that exercise and healthy eating will help curb childhood obesity and lower the rising trend and costs of chronic illness. We hope providing events like Kids Run will help families instill healthy habits in their kids that will stay with them through their lives."
Kids Run is presented by Wegmans and sponsored by Independent Health Foundation, Channel 7 and GoGo squeeZ.
